With the stock market in it's current state of malaise, there is one thing you can do to increase your retirement funds. It is call a self-directed IRA or SEP. Basically, this method allows you to decide where to put your money. It can be in real estate (not your personal residence) or companies that are not traded on the stock market. There are a few companies around that will be the "custodian" for you as you can't directly invest the money yourself.
Locally, South Valley Bank and Trust is custodian, but there are others around the USA>
You can also invest your money in other countries. Ask me about investing in real estate in Mexico with your SEP or IRA.
